Cash App is quick, informal and popular — and that makes it a favorite tool for scammers. Here are the scams people search about most.

Common Cash App scams

  • Fake customer support. You search "Cash App phone number" and call a fake one, or a "support agent" messages you on social media. They ask for your sign-in code or PIN, or tell you to send a "test payment".
  • Money flipping. Instagram and TikTok accounts promise to multiply your money. They never send anything back.
  • Giveaways ("Cash App Friday"). You're told you won but must pay a fee first.
  • Fake payment screenshots. A buyer shows a "payment sent" image, but nothing arrived. Always check your own balance.
  • Overpayment. A buyer "accidentally" sends too much and asks for the difference back from a stolen account.

Red flags

  • Anyone asks for your PIN or sign-in code.
  • You must pay to receive money.
  • The other person pushes you to act fast.

If you were scammed

Report the payment inside Cash App, contact your linked bank or card, then file at reportfraud.ftc.gov. Report the $Cashtag here so others can find it before they pay. Related: Zelle scams.
